Only a few short steps away from Neutral Bay’s famous Military Road lies a new contemporary cafe offering brunch favorites with a few twists! Coming from the same owners who run Calibrate and SML, At Neutral has re-defined the cafe experience from the traditional menu to the interiors! Much like their other establishments At Neutral thrives off it’s modern and trendy design with much of the materials consisting of natural oak contrasting with their sleek monochrome details.

The layout features a stretch of a lilac leather seating just alongside their timber feature bar leaving hardly any barrier between the staff and the customer experience. This provides a home-like comfort that differentiates At Neutral to other cafes in the area.

Similar to Calibrate and SML, being faced towards the north was an extreme factor, as it added natural light and warmth to space. This allowed customers to be greeted by the morning sun as they enjoy their coffee or meal.

Recently, I ordered the “Hippie Lane coconut loaf with matcha gelato with fresh fruit and berries”. With it being my first visit I was astonished at how visually appealing the dish was. Every single ingredient stood out on the plate providing an almost instantaneous reaction to take a photo of how stunning the dish was. The use of extremely fresh ingredients made each bite to be a joyful experience. From the warm coconut loaf to the contrasting slightly tart flavor of the matcha gelato allowed for the perfect balance of flavors.

The coffee used comes from the same custom house blend as Calibrate and SML, specially created for the cafes from a roastery in Chatswood. At Neutral also serves an array of specialty coffee including cold brew, batch brew, and cold brew.

At Neutral certainly lives up to their fine-dining cafe title making in of my top cafes.
